Sir, – How sad and ironic that in the same week that Eamonn Coughlan launches a new campaign to get
children more active, UCD has closed the running track in Belfield.
Having run there several times in wet conditions in recent months, in some cases with my children, I can confirm that there
were absolutely no safety concerns with the track. A sad day, not just for Irish athletics, but for everyday runners like me. – Yours, etc,
