A peaceful pumpkin protest

Madam, – As a father, I am horrified and terrified at how this country is being run, but at times feel powerless to do anything about it. I worry about the future of this country for my two beautiful young daughters.

I am not the kind of person who usually gets involved in protests, but I feel it necessary for us to express our horror, in whatever way we can. So, this is how I am going to start; with a Peaceful Pumpkin Protest on Halloween night – the scariest and most terrifying night of the year. I believe there are lots of other people like me horrified by our Government and they would like the opportunity to show their horror.

This is how I suggest we can express this horror peacefully: 1. Buy a pumpkin. 2. Carve what you wish into it. 3. Place a tea light within. 4. Bring your pumpkin along from 3pm on Sunday, October 31st to the Merrion Square Entrance of Leinster House. 5. Leave it in place for all the souls in Leinster House to consider, on All Souls night, the horror they have inflicted upon the citizens of this country. 6. Make sure not to leave your pumpkin there behind you, as that would be littering.

This is a simple protest, but with an important message.

I have been informed by the Garda Síochána that we as citizens have every right to protest peacefully, so let us exercise this hard- fought right. – Yours, etc,
