Sir, – Cathal Malone (September 14th) makes some valid points regarding TDs’ expenses, however I do not agree that a “fully-vouched” system is the best option. It would be better to zone the country, starting from Dublin city. Let the geographic centre of each constituency determine each TD’s zone and an annual allowance could then be allocated for each zone depending on its distance from Dublin. Where the TD chooses to live, or claim as a main residence, would be irrelevant and the State, knowing what the cost would be, could budget for it. The simpler the process, the better. – Yours, etc,
