Madam, – In the past fortnight, a man who owes €17 million told Wicklow District Court that he could only afford to repay €100 a month. This man, a developer, has an income of €80,000 a year, owns five properties in the UK, and pays €27,000 in private school fees for his children.

That court made no order against him due to “lack of funds”.

If those of us lower down the caste system were to enrol our children in private schools immediately, would we be afforded a similarly favourable and compassionate hearing? – Yours, etc,

PAUL STUART,

St Brigid’s Terrace.
