Madam, - In his article "A Blip On The Radar" (Weekend Review, July 12th), Ruadhan Mac Cormaic quotes Michael O'Leary as saying that the Irish Aviation Authority, whose contingency plan for a radar shut-down was, apparently, to go home early, is "a shambles".
I couldn't agree more. With a little bit of initiative and co-operation, another Dublin-based, state-of-the-art, under-used radar system could have been put to use - the one at Baldonnel.
Unlike control towers, radar installations do not have to be located on the active airfields - or does no one in the IAA realise this? - Yours, etc,
