Madam, - May I be so bold as to correct the Irish Europe Minister, Dick Roche, regarding his statement that the EU has "created 50 years of peace".
In June 1991 Germany persuaded the EU that its old ally Croatia should be granted recognition as an independent state.
Other countries within Yugoslavia demanded an equal standing, causing Yugoslavia to degenerate into war. Not only have we had war in the EU during the last 50 years, but it was the EU that caused it. - Yours, etc.,
