Sir, – I read with interest in Saturday’s edition of The Irish Times that a number of changes are being made to the paper. However, I did not see any mention of the disappearance of the Thinking Anew column.

The removal of this column is, to my mind, a retrograde step and will be a sad loss to many of your readers.

The articles were widely read, both here and in other countries.

The column struck a note of hope and light in a world of so much tragedy, confusion and darkness. The research and thought that went into the articles led to an inspirational and insightful view of faith and society.

Importantly, the column challenges us to look, in a fresh way, at the issues of life from a spiritual point of view.

I wish to express my deep appreciation to the contributors to the column. – Yours, etc,

Rev CECIL HYLAND,

Skerries,

Co Dublin.
