Sir, – Anthony Gray (Letters, August 22nd) draws attention to the fact that journey times on the Dublin to Belfast rail line are now up to 20 minutes longer than two decades ago and that they will get even longer if the Dart is extended to Drogheda. Extending the Dart to Drogheda should be much more than electrifying the system and buying extra rolling stock.
It is obvious that the Dublin to Drogheda section of the line will have to be extended to four tracks if an efficient service is to be provided. I am not aware of any plans to undertake this important piece of railway infrastructure. – Yours, etc,
