Sir, – According to “Teacher confidence not school ethos the biggest barrier to sex education, Dáil committee told” (News, July 15th), the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) director Dr Jacqueline Fallon stated, “We are very focused on consultation with children. For example we’re currently undertaking consultation with babies, toddlers and young children on the updating of the early childhood curriculum framework.”
The NCCA is infamous when it comes to consultation. For example, after consulting history and geography teachers a number of years ago, it decided that these subjects should be downgraded at Junior Cycle. I’m willing to wager that after consulting the toddlers of Ireland, the NCCA will miraculously find that the toddlers will completely agree with any proposed reforms that the NCCA envisages! – Yours, etc,
