Due to space constraints, a paragraph was omitted from Maev-Ann Wren's article in Saturday's editions in which she supplied answers to the most frequently asked questions about health spending.
The paragraph stated that in the OECD's international comparisons, Irish spending on actual healthcare is probably over-stated because of the inclusion of social programmes funded by the Department of Health, which would not be counted as health spending in other states. In computing Irish health spending, the OECD used to exclude programmes funded from the European Social Fund. Now it includes many more social programmes since Ireland receives less ESF funding.
