Zimbabwe accuses West of cholera 'biological warfare'

Zimbabwe is accusing the West of deliberately starting its cholera epidemic as part of biological warfare.

Zimbabwe is accusing the West of deliberately starting its cholera epidemic as part of biological warfare.

The state-run Heraldnewspaper said today that comments by the US ambassador that the US had been preparing for the outbreak raise suspicions.

After the first cholera cases, US and other aid workers braced for the waterborne disease to spread quickly in an economically ravaged country where the sewage system and medical care have collapsed.

The Herald quoted the information minister as blaming the epidemic on racist "biological chemical war" waged by the US and former colonial power Britain.

Such anti-Western rhetoric is common, and an important tool for the regime. The government controls most news sources to which ordinary Zimbabweans have access.
