Eastbourne - Five teenagers were injured, some critically, when their car crashed off a 150 ft cliff yesterday, smashing into rocks below.

Police said it was "remarkable" that the three boys and two girls were not killed instantly when their Ford Fiesta went off the cliff at Eastbourne, East Sussex. Witnesses spoke of seeing the car drive over the clifftop before rolling down the rough cliff face and crashing nose-first into chalk boulders.

The injured were airlifted to Eastbourne District General Hospital. Doctors said two of the girls and one boy were on the critical list. One of the remaining boys had serious but not life-threatening injuries, while the other was not seriously injured and was conscious.
