Visitors to the National Gallery today will be welcomed by a colourful troupe of Pierrots and invited to take part in a lively programme of music, song, dance, street theatre and art classes. The theme of this year's Family Day is Engaging with the Community, and Marie Bourke, Keeper and Head of Education, promises "something for all ages".

RTE presenters Mary Kennedy and Marty Whelan formally launch the Day at 11.30 a.m. with Moving Portrait by Picasso performed by Elaine Bastible and dance group D. Two 4 from Tallaght Youth Services. Other entertainment includes the MaSamba Drummers, St Canice's National School Orchestra, and the Spring Onion Puppet Theatre's production of Androcles and the Lion. There will be special drawing classes for pre-school children and 8- to 12-year-olds.
