Paris - Young women with breast cancer should be considered high-risk patients and be systematically offered chemotherapy after surgery, according to research published yesterday in the British Medical Journal.
Younger breasts are denser and small growths are more difficult to detect than in older women. In addition, the tumours also tend to be more aggressive, meaning that cancer is more likely to have spread into the lymph glands from the breasts, Danish scientists said. They assessed the cases of 10,356 women under 50 who had breast cancer.
