The Football League today suffered a new blow following the ITV Digital crisis with Worthington deciding not to renew their sponsorship of the League Cup.
The five-year deal is due to run out after next season's Worthington Cup final, and the beer brand's new owners Coors have decided not to extend the sponsorship.
"They have a five-year deal which is coming to an end and after that they will move on. They feel that the impact of the sponsorship has reached its limit," said John Nagle, spokesperson for the league.
"We have already had interest from other companies and when we start talking to them we will point to the success Worthington have enjoyed through the association."
It is possible the League might buy Coors out of the last year of their sponsorship if it helps them find a new partner, but with the current uncertainty surrounding TV rights, potential sponsors are almost certain to want to wait until the ITV Digital crisis is settled.
