Tiger Woods gave one of his most overpowering performances to capture his fifth consecutive PGA Grand Slam of Golf, firing 11 birdies without a bogey to win by an astonishing 14 strokes at Poipu Bay Golf Club.

Woods carded an 11-under par 61 to finish on 17-under par for a 36-hole 127 aggregate. Justin Leonard and Davis Love III were in a distant share of secondon141 with PGA Championship winner Rich Beem last, another four strokes back.

Woods birdied six of the first eight holes and five of the last seven.

"It just kept going - making shots, aiming at my spots and I was knocking down my putts," Woods said. "It's a lot of fun when everything works like that."

Woods won US$400,000 for the triumph in the one million-dollar event, which is meant to match the year's four major golf champions.

But British Open champion Ernie Els of South Africa chose not to play and Woods won both the Masters and US Open, the first man to do so in 30 years, so alternates Love and Leonard were selected to complete an all-American field.

"I enjoyed it. I really played well," Woods said. "I hit just a lot of good shots. Starting out, I did exactly what you need to do when you have a three-shot lead. I needed to go out there and play a good, solid front nine and I just got on a roll."

Unless you happen to be Love, Leonard or Beem, who was still able to joke after being whipped by the man whose comeback at the PGA fell one stroke short of stopping Beem's surprise triumph.

"Another top-five," joked Beem. "I'm just glad I was part of it so I could watch Tiger shoot 61. That was the highlight of my day."

Love shot a second round 69, Leonard 72 and Beem 73, giving the impression Woods was playing a different course.
