London - A British trainee teacher lived for a week with no pulse in a pioneering operation that allowed her heart "time out" to recover from a rare viral infection, doctors said yesterday.

Ms Julie Mills (21) was fitted with an implant that took the strain off her heart, and has recovered full health, 12 weeks after doctors gave her 20 minutes to live.
