A young Irish woman who received a double lung transplant earlier this year has died. Becky Jones became the first patient with a multi-resistant fungal lung condition called aspergillosis to receive a lung transplant.
Ms Jones from Castleknock, Dublin, was 20 years old when she received the operation at the University Hospital of South Manchester in June of this year. Ms Jones, who had cystic fibrosis, became allergic to the common airborne fungus aspergillus, as is common in CF patients.
She died on Sunday and is survived by her father Barry, mother Aisling, her brothers Jack, Jed and Ollie and wider family. Her funeral will take place in the Church of Our Lady Mother of the Church, Castleknock, tomorrow with burial afterwards at Glasnevin crematorium.
