A British couple known as Lord and Lady Johnson appeared before Dublin District Court yesterday where the woman summarily dismissed her legal team and asked to be extradited to England.

Her partner, however, chose to retain the services of solicitor Mr Robert Eager and barrister Mr Tim O'Connor "for further instruction" and was remanded in custody for two weeks by Judge Miriam Malone.

The couple, known around Fermoy in Co Cork as Lord Arnold and Lady Guinevere (formerly known as Clive Dillon-Hall) appeared before the court under extradition warrants from Hertfordshire police in the names Arnold and Jennifer Mallowes, on bank fraud charges.

They have been living in a caravan on the grounds of Kilmurry House, a rundown mansion, for two years. They were arrested last week in Fermoy and brought to Dublin for the extradition hearing. They were remanded in Mountjoy for the past week.

When the case was called yesterday, the judge at first remanded both parties for a further two weeks, but after it was indicated Ms Jennifer Mallowes - formerly known as Mr Dillon-Hall - had dismissed her solicitor and barrister, the case had to be called again.

The judge told her documentation would be in place by Monday and remanded her in custody for the weekend.
