A woman (22) has been shot dead while attending a birthday party in Dublin's Coolock.
Gardai said shots were fired at the house at Adare Green shortly after three or four men were refused entry to the party around 2am.
A garda spokesman said: "These men then left the scene. It is believed that at about 2.30am a number of shots were fired at the front of the house by at least one man.
The dead woman was in the sitting room of the house and was struck in the upper body."
The young woman, who is from the Coolock area, was pronounced dead at Beaumont Hospital shortly after 4.30am.
Gardai have preserved the scene for technical examination, and the State Pathologist's office has been informed for a post-mortem to be carried out.
Detectives, who have launched a murder inquiry, have begun interviewing some of the people who were at the birthday party.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Coolock Garda station on (01) 666 4200.
