A mother of three young children who took part in the robbery of a young woman student at a Luas stop has been given a four-year sentence by Judge Patrick McCartan at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Edel Losty (31) held the young woman’s arm at the Busáras Luas stop while a teenage accomplice raised her fist and demanded the victim’s purse.

The pair were arrested nearby when the woman identified them to gardaí.

Losty, of South Circular Road, pleaded guilty to the robbery in the early hours of October 31st, 2006.

Eoin Hardiman BL, defending, said Losty had left a rehabilitation programme to deal with her addiction herself but had relapsed and was now waiting to be reassessed for treatment.

Judge McCartan imposed a four-year sentence and suspended the final year.
