A schoolteacher remained in the hospital after Cincinnati police struck her with crowd control ammunition during a week of protests and violence that followed the fatal shooting of an unarmed black man by a white police officer.
Ms Christine Jones (34) and three other people, including two black girls, were hit by beanbag projectiles when police - allegedly unprovoked - fired on a crowd of peaceful protesters shortly after the funeral of the slain man on Saturday.
The FBI and Cincinnati police will separately investigate Saturday's firing of beanbags - akin to rubber bullets - in the city which was under curfew for a fourth night into the early hours of today.
Ms Jones, who is white and from Louisville, Kentucky, said she might need to have her spleen removed due to the incident, adding she also sustained a cracked rib and bruised lung.
