Woman faces charges on Tralee child's death

A woman is to be charged in connection with the death of a 3½-year-old child in Tralee, Kerry last week.

A woman is to be charged in connection with the death of a 3½-year-old child in Tralee, Kerry last week.

The woman, a non-national, was arrested at 7.30am and was taken to Tralee Garda station. A Garda spokeswoman said this evening the woman would appear in court tomorrow morning to face charges in relation to the child's death.

It is unclear, at this stage, what those charges will be.

The girl was critically ill with head injuries when admitted to Kerry General Hospital in Tralee last Thursday. She was put on a life-support machine but died the following afternoon.

Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster carried out a postmortem but details have not been released.

She was born in Kerry General Hospital in January 2002. Her Polish parents have been living in the town for a number of years.
