A woman has died following a car crash in Co Roscommon.

A woman has died following a car crash in Co Roscommon.

A car in which an 86-year-old man and his 83-year-old sister were travelling collided with an articulated lorry at about 1pm today on the Strokestown to Elphin Road at the townland of Lugboy.

Gardaí said the two elderly people were both taken to Roscommon General Hospital.

The woman died this evening as a result of her injuries. The man was transferred to University College Hospital Galway with serious injuries, a Garda statement said.

The road at the scene has re-opened to traffic following an examination of the area by Garda forensic collision investigators.

Garda in Boyle are seeking witnesses to the crash.
