Woman dies after Dublin assault

A 31-year-old woman has died as a result of injuries sustained during an assault in Dublin city centre last week.

A 31-year-old woman has died as a result of injuries sustained during an assault in Dublin city centre last week.

The woman was attacked near the entrance to the Rotunda Maternity Hospital on Parnell Square East at around 2:15pm on Thursday, June 18th.

She was taken to Beaumont Hospital where she died this afternoon as a result of head injuries. The State Pathologist has been notified and a post mortem is expected to take place tomorrow.

A garda spokesman said two people have been detained in relation to the incident.

This morning a 32-year-old man was arrested in the Clondalkin area of Dublin and is being held under section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act at Store Street Garda Station.

On Tuesday a 34-year-old woman was arrested and subsequently released without charge. A file will be sent to the DPP.

Gardaí have also renewed their appeal for assistance and anyone with any information concerning the assault is asked to contact the Fitzgibbon Street Garda Station on 01-6668400.

Gardaí later said the incident may have been video recorded on a mobile telephone. They have requested that the person who recorded it contact them as a matter of urgency.
