The incident happened at about 6.35pm when a 90-year-old female pedestrian was struck by a car on Crawford Avenue at the junction with Iona Road.

The woman was seriously injured and taken by ambulance to the Mater hospital where she died in the early hours of this morning. The driver of the car, a 26-year-old woman, was uninjured. She was the sole occupant of the car.

The road was closed for a time for a forensic collision examination.
