Woman (72) critical after nursing home incident

A 72-year-old woman is in critical condition after an incident at a care facility in Co Clare.

A 72-year-old woman is in critical condition after an incident at a care facility in Co Clare.

The woman, a resident of the Orchard Community Residence in Kilrush, is being treated in Ennis General Hospital following the incident yesterday. It is believed she sustained a head injury and may have been pushed by another patient.

It is understood that the woman may have been pushed by an elderly male patient and fell to the ground, banging her head.

A Garda spokesman said they had begun an investigation and would be speaking to patients in the facility in due course.

The HSE Mid West is also carrying out its own internal investigation into the incident, which they described as"regrettable".
