A 20-year-old woman is due to appear before Ardee District Court this evening  in connection with a fatal stabbing in Laytown last night.

She is expected to face a charge of murder.

Last night a 19-year-old woman was killed after being stabbed on the main square in Laytown shortly after 9.30pm.

The mother-of-two died at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital as a result of her injuries.

Gardaí investigating the incident issued an appeal for witnesses.

Superintendent Gerry Smith of Drogheda Garda Station said: "We are asking that anybody who was in the Laytown between 9 and 9.30pm last night, especially in the area between Pats Centra supermarket and Seaview housing estate, to contact the Incident Room at Drogheda Garda Station, telephone 041-9838777."
