Oslo - Norwegian hunters seeking to kill nine wolves in the forests of south-east Norway have received anonymous death threats from opponents of the cull.

Hampered by heavy snow, members of a 23-strong team of hunters ended the second day of the hunt without even spotting a wolf. Dozens of environmentalists have been camping out in chill temperatures in a bid to scare any wolves away from the guns.

The wolves are blamed for killing 612 sheep last year. The World Wide Fund for Nature says there are only about 80 wolves in south Scandinavia, with only 30 to 40 in Norway.
