Gardaí are appealing to the public for information in relation to a serious assault in Mullingar Co Westmeath on Friday.
A 20-year-old man was left in a critical condition in hospital after he was attacked on Pearse Street in the town at 2.40am.
The man was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar but later transferred to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin where he remains in a critical condition.
Two men (21 and 20) and a woman (19) were arrested and subsequently released without charge in relation to the incident.
Gardaí have appealed for anyone who was in the area on December 23rd between 2am and 3am or anyone with information to contact them at Mullingar Garda station 044-9384035, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any Garda station.
