Wexford County Council's senior executive engineer, Mr Paul Wilson, collapsed at the Four Courts in Dublin yesterday where he was to appear as a witness in a High Court case. He was brought by ambulance to the Mater Hospital.

Mr Wilson was to be a witness in an action in which Mr Clarke Warren, an Irishman citizen living in Wales who owns land in Enniscorthy, is suing Wexford County Council and Enniscorthy Urban District Council.

The action concerns planning development issues.

When the case list for the day was being called before Mr Justice O'Higgins, counsel for Mr Warren, Mr James Dwyer SC, said they had been told one of the witnesses had collapsed. Mr Dermot Flanagan SC, for the two local authorities, said the person was a senior executive engineer. This was a case which went back to the 1980s and would take four days.
