Despite the World Cup dominating the sporting agenda, there are still plenty of alternative events taking place around the country, especially for horse racing and GAA fans.

If you fancy a break away from the World Cup madness, there are plenty of opportunities for a flutter on the horses.

Racing will take place at the Navan this evening and tomorrow. Racing will also take place at Limerick Race Course tomorrow evening, with the first race at 5.55pm and the last at 8.55pm.

There are a number of Gaelic games fixtures around the country, with qualifying round one matches in both hurling and football taking place tomorrow and Sunday. AA Roadwatch advises that there will be large volumes of traffic around venues for these fixtures.

The main games to look out for are on Sunday with Donegal taking on Derry in the Ulster Senior Football Championship Semi-Final at Clones. AA Roadwatch advise that all approach roads to Clones from Donegal to be busy from 12pm until after the match late afternoon.

Roscommon will do battle with Galway at home in Hyde Park in the Connacht Senior Football Championship Semi-Final at 2pm. Routes on the N17 and the N83 are expected to be busy as well as in and around Roscommon from 12pm until late afternoon after the match ends.

Ennis will see the All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Qualifier Round 1 against Clare and Limerick at 4pm. Approach roads to Ennis from the county N67, N85, N18 and N24, N21 from Limerick are expected to be busy from around 2pm until the evening.

Westmeath will clash with Waterford at Cusack Park in Mullingar in the All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Qualifier Round 1 at 4pm. Busier than usual volumes of traffic are expected on the N4, N82 to Mullingar ahead of the fixture. Roads from Waterford the N9,N80 and N52, are likely to be busy as well.

In the capital there are a number of events for those not afflicted with World Cup Fever. A street festival will take place on Sunday on Thomas Street. Dublin Bus are advising customers that the street from Cornmarket St to Bridgefoot St will be close to traffic from 12pm to 7pm.

The late great rocker Rory Gallagher will be honoured in Temple Bar Square in Dublin tonight at 8.30pm when a bronze sculpture of his Fender 'Stratocaster' guitar will be unveiled by the Lord Mayor Councillor Catherine Byrne at a free outdoor public ceremony. There will also be a free outdoor concert on the Square.

Some flights from Dublin Airport are delayed today. Passengers are advised to check with their carriers before travelling.

No major flight delays or cancellations into Cork or Shannon Airports. All passengers are reminded to check in 90 minutes before your flight departure time.

The weather will remain cloudy today and over the weekend but temperatures are expected to remain high from 16 to 24 degrees. The sunshine will be interspersed with some drizzly showers, especially along coastal areas. Some areas will also be hit with mist or fog patches.

By Sunday, any rain will mostly clear to be warm and mainly dry with some sunshine in places. Lowest temperatures 8 to 13 degrees.

Meanwhile, traffic restrictions for the State Funeral of former Taoiseach Charles Haughey will remain in place today until after 3pm.
