A website carrying radio archives of a programme in which supporters of the "Real IRA" have been interviewed has been shut down.
A notice posted on the website, www.iraradio.com, yesterday said it had been shut down in the light of recent laws passed in the US allowing the seizure of assets of any company that supports terrorism.
"The Cosmic Entertainment Company board of advisers has deemed it advisable and in the best interests of the company to temporarily shut down the iraradio.com web site until the turbulence and uncertainty facing our nation has decreased," it said. The company's founder and CEO, Mr Travis Towle, told the New York Daily News that the FBI had told the site's internet service provider to shut it down or face having its assets seized.
The FBI made no comment when contacted.
Mr John McDonagh, who presented "Radio Free Eireann", archived on the site, said his programme often contained interviews with those who had been refused US visas. He said it would continue to be broadcast.
