Did you know that an Irish scientist was the first to smash the atom? Or that the Hubble space telescope of the Victorian era was built in Co Offaly?

These are among the facts and stories featured in a new online resource for schools launched today at the Royal College of Physicians.

Developed as part of Science Week 2005, Ingenious Ireland Online is a collaboration between Discover Science & Engineering and An Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta and features animations, podcasts and material written by science teachers.

The site explores Irish science and technology, investigates the science behind stories, gives real-life career case studies, and provides learning activities and curriculum links for schools.

Science Week Ireland, 2005 runs until November 20th.
