Plummeting temperatures, freezing fog and snow showers in the midlands, north and east of the country have seen Met Eireann to issue extreme weather warnings tonight.
The meteorological service has warned that it will be bitterly cold tonight with temperatures in some places dropping to as low as minus six degrees Celsius.
Snow has already fallen in many parts of the country and county councils across the State are preparing to salt roads.
Drivers have been urged to take care tonight and tomorrow as roads are expected to be icy in many parts of the country.
