A Northern Ireland man was forced to hand over legally held weapons while his girlfriend and child were held captive, police said today.

Fewer than 10 firearms were obtained after two masked assailants entered a house in the Castlegrange area of Strabane, Co Tyrone, last night and stayed with the gun owner’s family.

He was forced to drive to Castefin, Co Donegal, and hand over the arms close to a chapel.

The masked men left the house in a white Vauxhall Astra belonging to the victim that was later found abandoned in Co Donegal.
