Up-and-coming playwrights will be given a chance to produce a professional play as part of the 21st anniversary celebrations of the renowned Red Kettle theatre company.

The Waterford company is planning to hold a festival of new writing in autumn 2006 - producing 21 plays in the same number of days, featuring some of Ireland's finest playwrights.

As part of the festival, two playwrights yet to put on a professional production will be given a chance to produce a 15-minute play.

The festival will consist of around 10 plays of 15-minute duration, as well as 10 plays that are five minutes long and one radio play.
