Water is due to be restored to up 1,500 houses in Co Limerick today after supplies were cut off last night following an oil spill.
Limerick County Council was forced to cut off the water supply from the Shannon Estuary between 9pm and 7am after oil from a local business leaked into the River Deel.
The worst affected parts were the western areas of Askeaton, Foynes, Shanagolden and Creeves.
The council said today, however, water supplies in the affected areas would be rationed throughout the day.
