Residents in a housing estate in Ballina, Co Mayo, have been without water supplies to their homes for the last five weeks.

The cause of the break in supply to homes in Mount Assumpta, in the Parkside area of Ballina, has not yet been found.

"We cannot flush toilets, we cannot put on our heating and we have no water to drink or wash with for 35 days now," Ms Carmel Staunton said. "Two weeks ago the local authority promised they would provide emergency tanks of water to the area but that has still not happened.

"The council does not appear to know the exact cause of the cut in supply and while we appreciate that they are working on the problem, there is no solution in sight.
