Violinist (10) wins in Estonia

A 10-year-old Dublin girl has won first prize in an international competition for young musicians in Estonia.

A 10-year-old Dublin girl has won first prize in an international competition for young musicians in Estonia.

Gina McGuinness, of Ballsbridge, Dublin, a violinist, won the competition organised by the Tallinn Cultural Institute, in which 250 children worldwide auditioned for the qualifying rounds. She is a student with Young European Strings in Templeogue. She also received a special judges award for "best interpretation" for her performance of the contemporary Elegy by Philip Martin.

Another Irish contestant, Roisin Walters, from Rathfarnham, was awarded a special prize for "personality in playing".

As a result of their performances, their teacher, Ms Maria Keleman, has been invited to teach at master classes and international seminars in both Russia and Estonia.
