MR David Sheridan (30) died in Limerick University Hospital yesterday following a stabbing incident outside a house in Rathkeale at about 1.15 a.m.

A second man, also in this 30s, was detained for questioning at Henry Street Garda station in the city under Section 4 of the 1984 Criminal Justice Act. The man was released without charge last night and gardai said that a file was being prepared for the DPP.

Gardai said that the circumstances surrounding the stabbing were still unclear. "There appears to have been an altercation involving a good few people, thought to be members of the same family", a spokesman said.

Meanwhile, gardai in Cork are appealing for witnesses to a violent incident in Blarney Street in which a 30-year-old man was stabbed.
