The VHI has reached agreement with the 27 hospitals in the Voluntary Public Hospital Group (VPHG) for the year 1996/97.
The total number of private and semi private beds in the VPHG is 1,488, so the value of the agreement in terms of claims paid by VHI will be in excess of £36 million. The VPHG, on behalf of VHI, provides treatment for almost 40,000 in patients and 25,520 day case patients annually.
VPHG consists of 27 voluntary public hospitals, including St Vincent's public hospital Beaumont Hospital, Mater Misericordiae Hospital, St James's Hospital, the Adelaide Hospital, Children's Hospital, Temple Street, Dublin, Mercy Hospital, Cork, St John's Hospital, Limerick, Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe.
Announcing the agreement yesterday VHI said all its members were fully covered for hospital services in any of these hospitals.
