The veteran actor Micheal Briain has died at the age of 73. He performed in more than 300 Abbey Theatre productions and several films.
Born in Spiddal, Co Galway, to an Irish-speaking family, he joined the Abbey company in 1943 and remained there until his retirement in 1989. During that time he appeared in The Righteous Are Bold, Tarry Flynn, Borstal Boy, The Hostage, The Shadow Of A Gunman, and numerous other productions. His films included The Quiet Man and Shake Hands With The Devil.
