A US soldier was shot and wounded in eastern Afghanistan while on patrol today, the Pentagon said.
General Richard Myers, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the shooting incident occurred south of Khost, a town near the border with Pakistan that has been a focus of US operations against al-Qaeda.
"He was shot in the chest, and he's currently being attended to and getting medical treatment as we speak," Gen Myers said.
The attack followed an incident yesterday in eastern Afghanistan where US special operation forces killed four people and wounded a fifth person after being fired on by occupants of a passing vehicle, he said.
Gen Myers said a search of the vehicle, a blue sedan, turned up a satellite phone and a large amount of Pakistani currency.
