Business information firm D&B is to set up operations in Dublin, creating up to 100 jobs over 18 months, it was announced today.

The US-based company, formerly known as Dun and Bradstreet, provides commercial information and insight on businesses. Its global commercial database contains more than 140 million business records in over 200 countries.

The Dublin-based operation, which will be located in Sandyford, will be responsible for the collection and processing of data on companies. The company said it would in-source operations roles from existing off-shore arrangements, many of which would be filled in Dublin.

Recruitment will begin in the coming months, with Premier Group appointed as partner.

Tánaiste Mary Coughlan welcomed the announcement.

"This highly sophisticated operation is in line with the Government's continuing efforts to position Ireland as the leading European location-of-choice for innovation-led and knowledge-based global investments," she said. "D&B is a highly reputable company and its decision to locate in Dublin is a clear endorsement of Ireland's global reputation in the international business services sector."

IDA Ireland chief executive Barry O'Leary said the decision to locate the centre in Dublin was very significant forthe country as a whole, and would be a "tremendous addition" to Ireland's global business services base.
