A GROUP comprising Limerick County and City Councils, the Garda, Customs and Excise, the Revenue Commissioners and the Department of Social Protection yesterday carried out a joint raid on an unauthorised waste facility in Limerick.

The objective of the action at Monaclinoe, Ballysimon, Limerick was to remove unauthorised waste and vehicles used in the transportation of waste, the authorities said.

Up to 20 gardaí and the regional support unit were involved. A number of unlicensed horses and dogs were also seized in the raid. About 30 people, including children, live on the site.
