United Nations - The UN Security Council voted unanimously yesterday to authorise the establishment of a 6,000-strong force to help restore peace to civil war-ravaged Sierra Leone.

Called the UN Mission in Sierra Leone, the new operation will help implement a July peace accord between President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah and Mr Foday Sakoh, leader of the Revolutionary United Front, aimed at ending a conflict marked by brutal atrocities.
