The 30-year-old victim from Brighton, who has not been named, died from multiple stab wounds following an argument after a collision involving three cars in Palmeira Square, Hove, early yesterday morning.

Sussex Police believe there was an earlier incident involving the drivers but refused to confirm reports that they were investigating a road-rage attack.

A man was arrested yesterday and a second has since been detained by officers, a Sussex Police spokesman said.

He added: "A collision happened at about 1.30am on the north side of Palmeira Square involving a Vauxhall Astra, a white Peugeot and a dark coloured Kia, all of which were travelling west towards Brighton. From an ensuing incident the man received wounds from which he died."

Detectives investigating the murder believe an incident involving these vehicles and occupants happened a few minutes earlier, about half a mile west of Palmeira Square near the new Tesco building in Church Road, Hove.

Detective Superintendent Chris Gillings, who is leading the investigation, said: "Anybody who may have seen the collision or the argument in Palmeira Square, or any incident or argument a short while earlier, should contact us."
