Two men arrested outside Cork bookmakers

Two men have been arrested in Cork following reports of suspicious activity at a bookmakers' premises this morning.

Two men have been arrested in Cork following reports of suspicious activity at a bookmakers' premises this morning.

At 10am the men were spotted acting suspiciously outside a bookmakers, which was closed at the time, on Bakers Road. Both men left the scene in a car.

Garda units in the area were alerted and a Detective Branch patrol discovered a car parked in a nearby laneway. A search of the car and immediate area was carried out and Gardai found balaclavas, gloves and a sawn-off shotgun.

The two men in the car, aged 27 and 32, were arrested and are being detained at Gurranabraher Garda Station.

Subsequent garda enquiries revealed that the car was stolen overnight in Cork City.
