Two men charged in connection with the death of a teenager in Dublin at the weekend appeared at the Bridewell District Court yesterday, writes TIM O'BRIEN.

Garda Thomas Cooney gave evidence of arresting Paul Barry (38), Pearse Street, Dublin, shortly after noon yesterday and charging him with the manslaughter of Toyosi Shittabey (15).

Judge Patrick Clyne remanded Mr Barry to Cloverhill Prison until 10.30am tomorrow.

Mr Barry sat quietly throughout the hearing.

Garda Karl Smyth told the court he had arrested Michael Barry (23), Pigeon House Road, Ringsend, Dublin, and charged him under section 11 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act with possession of a hockey stick.

Michael Barry was remanded to Cloverhill District Court until tomorrow to allow time for bail conditions to be met.

Judge Clyne stipulated that conditions should include an independent surety of €6,000, the surrender of Mr Barry’s passport and an undertaking by him to keep away from the Tyrellstown area of Dublin.

It was further stipulated that he not make any contact with witnesses and not apply for any other travel documents.

In addition he is to sign on at Irishtown Garda station each day.
